WEED CONTROL EXPERT HAS LOW-MAINTENANCE ANSWER
FOR MANUFACTURED HOME OWNERS
Turn off your power trimmer. Stop spending weekends weeding. Create a
"picture-perfect" home. PREVENT-A-WEED is a state-of-the-art management tool created to control weeds and grasses around the perimeter of your manufactured home, for years!
PREVENT-A-WEED is a tough, plastic ground cover fabric that stops weeds and grasses from growing in the first place by blocking the sunlight. It prevents you from having to clip, pull or spray weeds after they have become a nuisance, and has been successfully used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Benefits are:
- 1) Saves maintenance time and money by eliminating repeated chemical spray applications, and never-ending trimming.
- 2) Eliminates chewed-up skirting, expensive skirting replacement, and the aggravating noise caused by power trimmers.
- 3) Safe for nearby flowers, shrubs, children, and pets, without the residue problems of potent chemicals.
- 4) Creates a neat, attractive border around homes.
- 5) Easy, one-time installation.
PREVENT-A-WEED was created by Dee Jennings of Amistad Homes, Inc., who has a 20-year background selling agricultural herbicides from Canada to Mexico. His
experience as a manufactured home community owner in Kentucky and Texas, as well as a former Texas retail center owner, led him to the idea of adapting this material for manufactured homes. The black woven polypropylene material has been used for years for a similar purpose industrially, not only by the U.S. Army but by South Dakota Game Fish and Parks agencies to establish new tree plantings for wildlife habitats. Its popularity has spread throughout the South and Central states, California and even Canada.
Packaged with pins and complete directions, the product comes in convenient 11 inch x 48 foot rolls(or 11 inch x 250 foot rolls). The fabric is pinned to the ground around the perimeter of a manufactured home, providing an attractive border. Any handy homeowner or service company can install PREVENT-A-WEED in about half a day ideally during set-up of the home, before the skirting is added. You can also install it around established homes, as well as storage buildings, flower beds, trees, and fences. "People spend $10 to $12 a foot building a fence, and then let weeds create an unsightly mess," said Jennings.
Polypropylene is an inert substance that is not affected by acids, alkalis, or water. It will not melt, or run down into the soil or water supply, and does not rust or corrode. It is not decomposed or broken down by substances commonly found in nature; except, over a long period of time, sunlight. The polypropylene in PREVENT-A-WEED is guaranteed for four full years against decomposition by sunlight -- and typically lasts eight to ten years.
Based in Calvert City, Kentucky, Jennings plans to market his product nationwide, through distribution companies like Everlock and Blevins, Inc. Suggested retail price for a 48 foot roll is approximately $27. Most single section homes require about 100 to 150 feet of PREVENT-A-WEED.
