Vinyl Skirting Panel Removal
Posted by: MikeyB62 (IP Logged)

Greetings:

Within the last week, I had my home skirted but need
to remove a panel so that I may reinstall the dryer vent
(which was just left under the home). I contacted the
contractor and he mentioned to just lift up the panel,
then pull it out ... but when I attempted this, I feel
that I might damage it since I believe that the panel
is somehow jointed to the next panel.

Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the person you paid to install this should come back and do the job right..
It is really good you found the vent. The moisture could have caused HUGE problems

If you lift up on the top rail (the 3" wide horizontal along the home bottom) the lower edge will rotate outward revealing the tops of the panels. Then lift whichever panel you wish and you will see that it slides along the adjacent panels. When you reinstall the panel just drop it back into the interlocking groove on the adjacent panels. This will be tricky with the the dryer vent installed, so I would remove 2 panels so that you can cut your hole in one reinstall it, then put the vent though the panel while it is in place. When you are done you slide the panel next to it in place.
Rmurray is right that it should have been done when the home was skirted. The most important thing is to get it corrected whether you do it or the contractor does.

Greetings & tnx for the responses.

I had contacted the contractor & they stated that "oh yeah, the other vent cover "crumbled" as we took it out so we just put the tubing back inside on the ground until you (the customer) purchased a new tube & cover". Well, to say the least, there was nothing wrong with the other tube & vent cover because I just cleaned the dryer vent line a week prior and as far as I'm concerned they didn't complete the job & purposely hid it ... but got caught by my attention to detail.

I already went & picked up a new tube & vent cover w/ tin snips and plan on finishing it myself w/o their assistance. Believe me, I'll figure it out.

Tnx a bunch & I'll keep this thread & forum active.

Greetings once again:

Well, I finished the job in 1/2 hr. The necessary panels were removed, sized the tubing diameter, did the cutting & got it all put back up w/o any problems.

I truly appreciate all the posts and hope that this will help someone in the future.

Regards,

MikeyB

GREAT...I doubt I would be calling that contractor anytime soon...He left you with what could have been a huge problem..

He absolutely did, and I hope that others who read this specific thread understand that it's vital to go back & check the contractors' work so that THEY don't get caught by surprise later on down the road which could lead to severe damage & expensive repairs.
